A few pictures of the landscape these birds live in
Greater roadrunner. It waited carefully for two trucks to pass, giving me time to set up the tripod. It then calmly crossed the road.
Made it!
At Gin Road (between Rodeo and State Line Road) a Curve-billed Thrasher is curious enough to almost fly into the car.
Ladder-backed woodpecker
Green-tailed towhee
Black-throated sparrow
Gambel's quail
A Cactus wren is furiously yelling to a competitor, the black bib all ruffled up.
This is a memorial picture. This guy disappeared halfway our stay at Cave Creek. Others started to fight about the territory.
Mexican jay
For comparison: Western scrub jay
Blue-throated hummingbird
Bridled titmouse
This Ladder-backed woodpecker looks for the peanut butter the people smear all over the place.
The Cardinal likes peanut butter too.
Pyrrhuloxia. Note the different bill shape compared to the Cardinal.
